The optimal diet for dogs contains meat, grains, vegetables, milk, fats and eggs
A good diet for dogs has many different kinds of foods.
Here are the ingredients for a healthy diet for dogs.
MEAT
Up to one half the daily amount of food given to you dog should be a meat source and 1/8th of that should come from organically grown organ meats. Remember the liver filters everything so buying any kind of liver from cows injected with growth hormones, steroids and antibiotics would just increase the amount that would filter down to your dog. My diet for dogs includes range cattle or kosher liver and they really love chicken livers.
VEGETABLES, FRUITS, GRAINS IN A DIET FOR DOGS
Some good vegetables and grains to give your dog are carrots (cooked), brown rice, whole grain cereal and nuts. My Cairn Terrier loved walnuts and could crack a walnut in half without breaking it, leave the bitter parts and eats all the nutmeat. I don't know how she did it!
MILK PRODUCTS DIET FOR DOGS
I have been giving my dogs milk and yogurt all their lives. Yogurt is especially good for keeping the natural good bugs in the stomach and intestines for protection against disease. If your dog has been on antibiotics be sure to give him probotics, (yougurt) to get the good bugs back into his intestinal tract.
FATS AND THEIR IMPORTANCE IN THE DIET FOR HEALTHY DOGS
Give you dog polyunsaturated fats and absolutely no trans fats which come from any packaged food and junk food. I use Virgin olive oil.
EGGS
Dogs love eggs and eggs love dogs. Dogs love to raid the hen house so a hard boiled egg once in a while is a good thing to give to your dog. I'm sure Martha would agree.
KIBBLE
Here we are treading on dangerous ground. The least pure of the food we are giving our dogs, kibble manufacturers are using sub-standard products as noted by the dog food recall. Read the bag. Put the bag back if it has practically nothing but corn or wheat in it and do not buy it if it has BHA, BHT, Ethoxyquin. These are proven carcinogens and are banned in Europe. They aren't in the food we eat. Why are they in the food our dogs eat?
SPRING WATER OR FILTERED WATER
I hope you are drinking lots of water that has been filtered. If not then at least get some for your pet. Our drinking water is full of prescription drugs. Don't believe it? Just do a search on the internet and you will find what awful chemicals are in our drinking water.
VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS
Ask your vet. Get a good one. There are many out there so read the labels and avoid the ones using chemicals.
